June 25, 2014

Over one million words have been translated in the three short months since March 24th, the day when Digital October and ABBYY Language Services launched their “Let’s Translate Coursera” project, which allows anyone who’s interested to pitch in and help translate the best courses available in the field of online education. Five thousand translators from fifteen different countries, four thousand pages of text, and three and a half thousand hours of work later, and the Russian subtitles are finally available for a course entitled, Inspiring Leadership Through Emotional Intelligence. Next on the docket are four more courses, the subtitles to which are just waiting to be edited by experts.

You can find lots more interesting facts and figures here.

The heart of this project lies in the single cloud environment that allows for the automation of the translation process. ABBYY SmartCAT allows users to take advantage of the most cutting-edge linguistic technologies – translation memory, term control, and post-editing machine translation – without any special knowledge or preparation.
