Joanne McNeil lecture and “Between Digital and Physical World” discussion
A lecture by Joanne McNeil, a well known expert in the field of modern art, senior editor of the Rhizome.org website dedicated to the arе of “new media,” was held at the Digital October media center on December 12. The event was held as part of the Mythology Online exhibition.
Joanne McNeil has written for many printed and online publications including Modern Painters, Wired UK, The Los Angeles Times and The Boston Globe. She also co-curated online programming for the 2012 Liverpool Biennial. Digital technologies are spreading rapidly: the role of computers in everyday life is growing; the internet is becoming part of the things around us, including art. Modern performances, sculptures and art installations are closely intertwined with the World Wide Web. During her lecture, Joanne McNeil used specific examples to examine the interaction between digital and material items in modern culture.
A round table discussion included artists Constant Dullaart, Nik Kosmas, Daniel Keller, Angelo Plessas, Dmitry Morozov and Aleksi Shulgin was held after the lecture.
The round table discussion has been organized as part of the Mythology Online. International Art Exhibition Web 2.0, which is being held in the Polytechnical Museum with the support of Digital October, Google and Kaspersky lab.
